Littorina saxatilis from the Isles of Scilly
Here is a set of the very common marine gastropod Littorina saxatilis (Olivi, 1792) from the Isles of Scilly, east coast of St. Mary's (around 10 mm; LDK molluscan collection). The structural richness of the habitat may lead to this great variety of colours. Similar colour patterns of this species are also known from the coasts of Iceland (Kellner, pers. observation).
